student body government

Over the years, I've learned  to expect the unexpected with my oldest child. From when he was little, Ryan was quite the daredevil, often trying different things that would make my heart stop in fear. I honestly thought he'd grow out of it, but he's proven me wrong as he's gotten older.
This school year wasn't any different, although he did wait until the end of it to spring his latest adventure: he decided to run for student body officer at his high school. More specifically, Communications Officer. The position basically deals with school announcements and getting the student body aware of upcoming events.

For the past few weeks, he's been working with his friends (some who are running for positions themselves) on posters and videos for his campaign. The other night Scott and I somehow got roped into helping him finish up a group of posters that needed to be at the school the next morning. He had a group of his friends helping, but we still didn't finish until after 10pm. And about a week before that, he had his friends finishing the handouts that were due to be distributed the same week. That one finished faster, considering I bought cookies for them to munch on while they worked. ;-)

Today was election day, complete with a huge assembly with the entire student body. The candidates were required to make a short video speech that was played during the assembly, and since Ryan let us watch it before today, I'm confident that his video will be unique. His best friend Isaac helped with it (budding movie director, that one!) and it was awesome!

He found out the results by the end of the day, which I'm sure was nerve-wracking for him, as well as his friends. But, I think it was well worth it when they announced him as the new Communications Officer for 2017-18.

Way to go, Ryan! We're so proud of you and your hard work!
