happy pioneer day!

Here in Utah, July 24th is celebrated as Pioneer Day. This day is marked as the day the LDS pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley, which they eventually settled and built up. While it's a big to-do here (parades, fireworks, concerts, etc.), it also celebrates and honors all of the pioneers who settled the western United States.

Personally, I don't have any ancestors that were a part of this momentous event, but I'm always game for honoring incredible men and women (and children) for the sacrifices they made, as well as their courage. Scott has ties to the pioneers, which makes it the kids' history, too, so we always make it a point to celebrate, no matter how small our gathering.

Happy Pioneer Day!
