Kua Bay

I think it's somewhat of a given that growing up in Hawaii, the beach is a big part of childhood. Mine is no exception. Most of my happy childhood memories are of me on the beach, whether it was camping with my family or just spending the day in the surf and sand for some sort of celebration. It was one of my favorite places then, and even though I now live in Utah, the beach continues to be a place I'd love to spend the day at.

Hawaii is home to my favorite beaches. I've been to beaches in various states of the mainland, but they don't compare to Hawaii. Kua Bay is one of those places and I was really excited to be able to take my kids there yesterday.

It's about 15-20 minutes north from Kona, and the parking is limited, but the beach is so worth it! The road down to the beach is now paved, making it easier to get there, something I'm grateful for.

Our set up until the wind blew it away and broke one of
the legs in half. We had fun chasing it towards the bushes, ha!

Because Ryan can't live without lacrosse for even a second....

We spent almost five hours at Kua Bay, and when we decided to leave it was only because I noticed Ryan and Scott (the fairest among all of us) turning red. Of course the kids were reluctant to leave; they were having way too much fun! It took a bit of pleading and a promise that we'd come back (I mean, we'll be here for nearly 3 weeks) to make them finally drag their feet to the car.

Unfortunately, when we got back to my brother's house, it was then that I noticed everyone got sunburned. I tried really hard to keep the kids drenched in sunscreen, but I guess it wasn't enough. So now we're hanging out today, slathered with aloe and cold compresses, playing video games and watching movies. Can we say mommy fail? Ugh!
