| Happy Father's Day! |
I wanted to make a good breakfast for Big Poppa for Father's Day, but totally spaced it this past week on going to the store to buy his favorites. So after waking up late (9am), I set out to cook. Did I mention the kitchen was dirty? Well, it was. So I had to clean up first to make room on the counters.
During the cleaning and the cooking, the Crack Monkeys were being unruly, which frazzled me. Sunday is like the day for them to go all out on trying to annoy each other to death. And, of course they had to do it in the kitchen, while I'm trying to cook.
So by the time breakfast is eaten and all gone, it's a quarter after 10am. Church starts at 11am, so you can guess I went into panic mode, as I hadn't taken a shower yet. The kids took their time getting upstairs to brush their teeth, but luckily I had ironed their church clothes the night before; one point for me, lol!
Amazingly, we got to church just as Sacrament Meeting started, which is a miracle for our family. Granted, my hair was still damp and I had no make-up, but everyone else looked good, so that was all that mattered right?
But the kids' antics during the morning and my panic paved the way for a massive anxiety attack, so I went home after the sacrament had been passed and the Primary kids sang their Father's Day songs. By the time I had to pick up Big Poppa and the kids, my anxiety was considerably less, but I still had the shakes. Did some breathing techniques and then we left for Big Poppa's parents' home.
I also have to mention and that in the hoopla of buying my dad a Nook (he actually answered when we asked what he wanted!) for his birthday/Father's Day, and taking Big Poppa to the Nike Factory Store to buy some sweet cross-trainers, we didn't buy Big Boss (Big Poppa's dad) a gift.
Oops.
So while I was home trying to breathe through my anxiety attack, I made a simple card, then searched for the gift card to Outback Steakhouse that we got Big Boss for his birthday in May but never gave him. Yes, I'm a horrible daughter-in-law, but in my defense, Big Poppa told me that he would think of a gift for his dad!
Anyway, I didn't hear if he liked the card and GC when the kids gave it to him, but Big Boss didn't throw it away in disgust, so I think we're alright. Note to self: remember to get Big Boss an AWESOME gift for Father's Day and his birthday next year.
All in all, it was a very nice day to be able to spend the day with three of my favorite men: Big Poppa, Papa & Big Boss. Each one of these men have been a great example to me and have taught me so many things in life, each in his own special way. I love that we have a day set aside to honor fathers, as they are important figures in anyone's life, but I hope we can remember to honor these great men everyday instead of just one day of the year!
